7th Ibero-American Gaming Summit
Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) will host the 7th Ibero-American Game Summit, the annual reference meeting for the gaming industry that will be held on April 28 and 29, 2020 at the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel. The Summit will bring together the main regulators and actors in the sector with the objective of improving the mechanisms of regulation and exchange of information between companies and regulators.
The Summit is presented as the only meeting point that brings together regulators from all Latin American countries to strengthen government and business ties.
The Government of the Dominican Republic, through the regulatory agency of the Ministry of Finance, the Directorate of Casinos and Gambling, will act as the Institutional Ambassador of the meeting in its capacity as host. In addition, as in all its previous editions since the beginning of this project in 2013, the Summit has the support of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration of Spain through the Directorate General for Game Management. The Dominican associations of the game will also participate in this event.
After its six previous editions, held in Madrid, Mexico City, Cartagena de Indias, Medellín and more recently in Lima, the Ibero-American Game Summit seeks to continue consolidating in the Latin American region.
The political-social stability of the Dominican Republic and the dynamism of its economy contribute to guarantee the legal security of foreign investments in a country that has a strategic geolocation in America. In addition, the Dominican Republic continues its expansion in the area of gambling and, particularly, with the updating and professionalization of the game with examples such as the application of the Law against Money Laundering and the fight against illegal gambling. Not surprisingly, casinos in the Dominican Republic are an important attraction for the country’s tourism offer. An event with these insurance characteristics will contribute to promoting advances in the industry through a regulation that covers the new gambling and gambling modalities currently in existence.
The Dominican administration, along with other countries such as Chile, Paraguay or Brazil, is in the process of creating an online game regulation in the face of the unquestionable development of this modality in recent years, as smartphones and internet access are the spearheads of this niche, of great reception in other countries like Spain whose law in this respect dates from 2012.
The Summit has been held twice in Madrid, once in Mexico, twice in Colombia and once in Peru, the last countries in Latin America to regulate the online game. Therefore, we find it very interesting that the next country where it falls is the Dominican Republic, both for its current context and for its gaming tourism market and its geographical location in Central America.
